If you search the Internet for the theme of “Meaning of Life and Mission of Life” you will find many articles written on this theme.
After reading these articles, have you been able to deeply understand and explore your own “Meaning of Life and Mission of Life”?
For me personally, I was never convinced.
While each of these articles is admirable in its own right, I always feel like they don’t go deep enough.
This is because I can’t help but feel that the consideration of “what life is” in the first place, which is the premise, is insufficient.
If so, even if you try to think about the “Meaning of Life and Mission of Life”, there is a danger of getting lost in some other forest.
If the “forest” is wrong, no matter how much you try to find happiness in that forest, it will be impossible to find the “fruit of happiness.”
Therefore, in this article, I would like to start with the fundamental questions, “What is life in the first place?” and “What is a human being in the first place?”
Only then will we be able to seek a fundamental solution to life’s problems, rather than merely providing temporary symptomatic treatment.
The “Meaning of Life and Mission of Life” can only be revealed if we assume the real world
In today’s world, neither philosophy nor religion can provide a clear answer to the question, “What is life? What is a human being in the first place?”
Philosophy has become almost a logic game, and modern philosophers seem to have forgotten the original mission of philosophy since Socrates.
What they have forgotten is the so-called premise that “the other world, the world after death, guardian spirits, and gods exist.”
Socrates’ thought was developed in the writings of his disciple Plato, in which there are many so-called spiritual stories about gods, the afterlife, and guardian spirits.
One of Plato’s works, Phaedon, even mentions the idea of reincarnation.
In other words, Socrates builds philosophy on the premise of the existence of gods and guardian spirits. At the origin of philosophy, it is clear that the point of view of the other world (the real world) is included.
“Theory of ideas” is not just an abstract idea, but it is certain that the “real world, the other world”, which is literally real, is in sight.
The reason why people today have a hard time accepting such words as “the other world,” “gods,” “spirits,” “heaven and hell,” and so on, as used in the origins of philosophy and religion, is simply because the images of these words are “old-fashioned and stale.
The other is a naive “modern progressive historical view” that says “how can we believe in such things in this day and age? God is made up by human beings for their own convenience.
However, modern progressive history has emerged only in the last 300 years or so.
And as you know, already in the early 20th century, such a linear view of the history of progress, that history is evolving in a straight line and the more recent it is, the closer humanity is to the truth, has been called into question.
In fact, even those who believe that there is no such thing as God or the afterlife do not come to such a conclusion after thoroughly examining such questions.
In most cases, they have made up their minds based on “just a feeling,” such as “everyone around me thinks so,” or “it would be uncool to believe in such things.
The starting point of intelligence is to remove preconceptions and prejudices and begin thinking with a blank slate.
Therefore, “making assumptions” is contrary to the original meaning of “intellectualism.
There is also the fact that most of the great figures in history, including in modern times, believe in the existence of God.
In his later years, Einstein, for example, was obsessed with inventing a “spirit world communicator.
One of the most famous personalities in history is Benjamin Franklin, the Founding Father of the United States, who clearly believed in God.
Thus, a person outstanding in intelligence or personality believes in God and the afterlife.
The afterlife may or may not exist, finite life or eternal life, gods may or may not exist. Whether you accept these things or not can completely change your outlook on life.
Just one thing, “There is a heaven and a hell,” forces us to fundamentally reexamine our outlook on life.
The English writer G. K. Chesterton, in his main book, “Orthodoxy“, has the following words of wisdom.
Thoroughly worldly people never understand even the world.
This conversely means that if we have a perspective beyond this world, we will be able to understand this world better.
That perspective beyond this world is precisely the perspective of the real world (the other world).
In other words, the “Meaning and Mission of Life” cannot really be seen unless we consider it from the perspective of the real world.
Human nature is “existential energy.”
Now, I will actually explain “soul, spirit, the other world, God…” in a modern and easy-to-understand way.
In conclusion, the essence of our life is “existential energy.
The physical body, of course, is also made of energy, but it is the outer part of energy, and in fact, even when the physical body is gone (i.e., “dead”), the part of mental energy continues to exist.
It is not an impersonal energy, but rather an energy that maintains its identity (self-identity).
In Descartesian fashion, let us for the moment divide the human being into spirit and body (object).
Descartes defined the world as “a thinking spirit and an extending object.
Although both spirit and object are “energy,” each has the following characteristics.
- Spirit : thought, thinking
- Objects (including the body) : extension
Extension” means a change in form, and refers to all changes in external form, including extinction.
The destruction of an object, or in the case of a human being, the “death of the body,” is a form of “extension.
However, since the characteristic of the spirit is “thought and thinking,” it does not include “extinction” or “annihilation,” which is a form of extension.
The spirit, the mind, by its very nature, does not include “perishability.
Therefore, to put it simply, your irreplaceable “individual existence” will be maintained throughout this world and the next.
In other words, we can define the essence of human nature in one word: “existential energy.
If you have studied Buddhism, perhaps some of you may think that since the Buddha taught no-self, he must have denied the eternal soul.
Regarding this, Neo Buddhism believes that there is a mistake in the interpretation of no-self. The Buddha/Shakti never denied the soul.
This will be discussed in detail in a separate article.
What is ” Vibrational Energy Theory”?
Now, in spirituality and religion, there are concepts such as “you die and return to the spirit world”, “there is a heaven and a hell”….
These concepts, which have been said for a long time (but seem old-fashioned today), can be explained in a modern way by extending them from the “existential energy” I have explained in this article.
Earlier, we defined human nature as “existential energy. This can also be called “life energy.
Let us consider one aspect of “energy”.
One of the qualities of energy, especially life energy, is that it has a certain vibration.
In spirituality, we often speak of “good vibration” or “raising the vibration.
At the root of the good vibration/bad vibration, anyway, is the fact that there is a vibration.
We, life energy, whether good or bad, always emit a certain vibration or wavelength.
There are people in this world who are somehow compatible/incompatible with each other. You can say that they are people you are comfortable with/not comfortable with.
In a nutshell, a compatible person is one whose vibration is easy to synchronize. The reverse is also true.
This is not a theory, but a physical sensation. Even in this world, we usually say things like, “The vibration is good and comfortable,” or “I am on the same wavelength as that person.
Yes, people emit certain vibrations according to their state of mind, and it is the nature of people with similar vibrations to be attracted to each other.
It is just the same principle as being able to catch a particular radio broadcast by matching the frequency.
In fact, the existence of heaven and hell, gods and Buddha, angels, demons, and so on, which have long been referred to in religions, can be explained by this theory of vibration energy.
Wave energy theory is sometimes spelled with the term “vibration theory. This is the term used in Neo Buddhism.
For now, let’s organize our considerations so far.
- Human nature is existential energy.
- Energy has a vibration aspect. In other words, existential energy is also vibration energy
- People with similar vibrations are attracted to each other. This is the theory of vibration energy
The Spiritual World, Heaven/Hell, God/Buddha, and Angels Explained by Vibration Theory
Heaven/Hell is a world created by those whose vibrations match each other.
Now, I mentioned that existential energy has an aspect of “vibration energy” and that those who are close to each other in vibration have a tendency to attract each other.
Even so, in this world, it is not possible to be with only those who are close in vibration, or those with whom one is in harmony.
Because we have to work to eat, because we have to go to school to study.
It’s very simple, isn’t it?
If you have to stay with someone you don’t like today or tomorrow, or if you have to leave someone you love, the reason should be that you have to eat a meal.
Buddhism defines this part of suffering as “appiyehi dukkha”or “piyehi dukkha”among the “Four Sufferings and Eight Sufferings.
- appiyehi dukkha : the suffering of separation from loved ones
- piyehi dukkha : the suffering of meeting people you don’t like
The fact that these sufferings exist because we have to eat rice means, conversely, that if we did not have to eat rice, we would not have to experience these sufferings.
Then why do we “need to eat food”? This is, of course, because we have a physical body and we need to keep it alive, right?
This means, conversely, that if there is no body, if there is no need to keep the body alive, there is no need to eat food, and so there is no need to go to work or school.
If you don’t have to go to work or school, then there can be no “appiyehi dukkha” and no “piyehi dukkha”, right?
” There is no body” here, in other words, is also what is commonly referred to as “death”.
If life continues to exist as existential energy after death, then we can imagine that the afterlife is a world where we are with people whose vibrations are compatible with ours.
Yes, this is the key to considering the spirit world and heaven and hell.
In short, the spiritual world is a world created by a certain number of people whose vibrations are in harmony with each other.
For example, heaven is a world created as a result of kind-hearted people (i.e., people who emit gentle vibrations) getting together with other kind-hearted people.
On the contrary, the world created as a result of people with ugly hearts (i.e., people emitting ugly vibrations) getting together is hell.
*However, there are also supposed to be judges, either dialectically or as guides in the spirit world.
There are stages in heaven/hell. There is a horizontal structure in the spirit world.
The above was a rough dichotomy: kind-hearted/ugly-hearted. Morally speaking, this is good and evil.
The world created as a result of good people coming together is heaven, and the world created as a result of evil people coming together is hell.
As we proceed with this consideration, you will see that the old saying “good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell” is in fact true.
People in the past were more spiritual and knew better than people today.
Now, when we say good guys and bad guys, there are actually several stages.
Very simply organized, it is as follows.
- Perfectly good
- Fairly good
- Somewhat good
- Somewhat evil
- Very bad
- Perfectly bad
This is what we call the heaven/hell stage theory.
If you are in the company of someone who is too virtuous in this world, you may think, “Wow, it’s great to meet you,” but you will be in awe of him or her and feel somewhat uncomfortable.
On the other hand, if you meet an evil person who is even more evil, you may respect him, but in the end, you will run away from him.
This means the following conditions
- Vibrations are too high to stay together
- Vibration is too low to be together
In other words, “kind-hearted” cannot be lumped together, and there are different levels of heaven according to “how kind? Or, “how kind and yet more capable,” and so on. The reverse is also true.
So this is the heaven/hell stage theory. It means that there is a horizontal structure in the spirit world.
In the spiritual world, there is also a vertically divided structure depending on tastes and preferences.
Next, we move on to a discussion of the vertical world.
Even if you are with someone who is on the same level in terms of personality and ability as you, if they have different interests and tastes, you may not be able to keep a topic of conversation going for very long.
Suppose, for example, that Mozart and Augustine are at the same height of heaven (hypothetically, that is).
However, Mozart is a musician, and Augustine is a religious person, so there is a difference in their interests and areas of expertise.
Then there is the aspect that it may be possible to meet, but it is difficult to stay together for a long time.
After all, if it were Mozart, he would be with other musicians of the same level, and if it were Augustine, he would be with other religious people of the same level.
There is also this kind of horizontal segregation in the spirit world.
In short, to summarize what we have said so far, matching vibrations means “people who have similar hobbies, tastes, and values, as well as similar personality and work skills.
This is the vibration energy theory, the vibration theory.
After all, people flow in the direction of comfort, so they want to stay with people whose vibrations are compatible with theirs.
After death, people with the same vibration come together and “consequently” create a world with their own characteristics.
In the eyes of God and Buddha, this is roughly divided into “heaven and hell,” and within each heaven and hell, there is an almost infinite number of worlds.
For example, if you complain and grumble a lot when you are living on earth and it has become a habit of your soul, you are creating a complete world by getting together with other people who also have the same habit of complaining and grumbling in their minds.
Or, those who are short-tempered and angry, after death, gather together with other similarly short-tempered and angry people to create a complete world.
The world created by these “angry and combative” people has long been called the “Demi-god realm(Asura realm)”.
People with strong sexual desires gather together and create a “sexual hell”. Those who live their lives driven by physical desires and instincts have created the world of “Animal realm(Tiryak realm)”.
In this way, people with similar vibrations gather together, and as a result, the worlds of “Asura”, “Tiryak” or “Deva(God realm)” are created.
Let us consider another analogy.
If you mix sand with water in a glass and shake it, it becomes muddy water for a while, but after some time, the heavier specific gravity will settle out and go to the bottom of the glass, right?
And the lighter specific gravity goes to the top of the glass.
Thus, those with coarse vibration of the mind will go to the lower world, while those with exquisite vibration of the mind will go to the upper world.
This is, roughly speaking, “heaven and hell.
How far down does something with a heavy specific gravity go, depending on how much it weighs? Or, conversely, how far up can something light in specific gravity go, depending on how light it is?
That is why the spiritual world is such a hierarchical place that it is a little difficult to classify.
So in Buddhism, that hierarchical structure is classified into six or ten levels.
The “Ten realms theory,” which divides the structure of the spiritual world into ten layers, will be discussed in detail at another time.
Apart from this Buddhist classification, Dante’s famous “Divine Comedy” describes the structure of the spiritual world quite clearly and highly in literature.
Inter-religious conflicts can be resolved
And let us further elaborate on these ideas.
The hierarchical structure means that the higher up you go (in short, heaven), there is a certain upper limit, the so-called top spiritual person (supreme existential energy being).
He is the top person in the complete magnetic field of the earth. In a company, they would be the equivalent of “representative directors.
This “Supreme Being,” who has been called the “supreme deity” since ancient times, is what is called the “Eternal Buddha” in Buddhism.
In Christianity, it is the “Father in Heaven,” and in Islam, it is “Allah.
The following is a summary
- Buddhism: Eternal Buddha
- Christianity: Our Father who is in heaven
- Islam: Allah
This means that I recognize that the entities believed in by each of the three major world religions are actually the same entity, although they have different names.
And I believe that the issues here are the key to fundamentally overcoming interreligious conflicts.
Simply put, “After all, the God we believe in is the same God. So there is no need to fight.
I will not go into this part in depth at this time, but to pursue and clarify this very point is religious pluralism, the ultimate ecumenism (church unificationism), and the very mission of Neo Buddhism.
What is a guardian spirit?
By the way, we often say that the soul inhabits the body, but in fact, not all parts of the soul come down to earth.
We have left a large part of our existential energy in the spirit world.
A “guardian spirit,” as it is often called (depending on the definition of “guardian spirit”), is not so much another entity other than oneself, but rather one’s own self that one leaves behind in the spirit world.
So the part of you that you have left behind in the spirit world is watching over the part of you that has descended to earth as a guardian spirit. And you are sharing the new knowledge, wisdom, and skills that you have gained in your life on earth.
When it comes to a spirit person who lives on the top floor of heaven, the energy is quite enormous, so we estimate that in the case of Buddha or Jesus Christ, for example, the portion that is down on earth is only a small fraction of the total energy.
It is a system in which a single existential energy differentiates into different energies and is born on the earth in sequence.
This is what is called reincarnation.
What are the conditions for going to hell?
Next, I will talk about the conditions of going to hell and how to escape from it.
In terms of “prevention,” I will also talk about how to avoid going to hell in the first place.
I have already mentioned that the vibration we emit determines where we go after death.
This means that the average vibration of one’s state of mind while living in the phenomenal world (this world) is the standard, which determines one’s destination after death.
Therefore, the condition for falling into hell is that the average vibration of one’s state of mind while living in the phenomenal world was more “evil” than “good”.
Therefore, it is important to accumulate the results on a daily basis.
In a nutshell, “the average of one’s state of mind over one’s lifetime” is, after all, an accumulation of one day at a time.
What is the way out of hell?
But even so, there will be times when you will say, “I still have to go to hell.
So the concern is, “Do I have to stay in hell forever?
This is a common saying in Christianity.
So, what is the truth? This can be solved by the “vibration theory.
As already mentioned, vibration theory states that spirits of a certain vibration are attracted to each other and create a certain world.
If that is the case, then if we change our own vibration, we will not be able to stay in that world, in short, we will be able to escape from hell.
Even if you have fallen into hell, if you do introspection of your mind and try to correct your vibration, you will not be able to stay in the world there, and as a result, you will be able to escape from hell.
The point is to switch to an exquisite vibration that does not match hell. In a nutshell, this is how to escape from hell.
And in order to change the vibration to an exquisite one, it is important to look back and introspect on the thoughts and deeds that we had when we were in this world.
This is, in fact, the royal road to “vibration adjustment.
In spirituality, the term “vibration adjustment” seems to be used, mostly in the context of some “external” mystical force adjusting a person’s vibration on its own.
This kind of thinking is characteristic of conjuring spirituality. It depends on external causes and solutions.
Such external dependence, however, does not fundamentally solve the problem.
Taking the ” royal road” is the fundamental solution to everything and, as a result, also a shortcut.
The royal road is the principle of independence, the spirit of self-reliance and initiative to take care of oneself.
However, if you have never been exposed to the truth at all while living in this world, you would never have a chance to become aware of these truths (vibration adjustment).
Also, since you don’t know the criteria for how to introspect in the first place, it would take you quite a long time to escape from hell.
In that sense, you can see how important it is to be in touch with the truth when you are alive (when you have a physical body) and to gain knowledge, even if only a little.
Also, the gods and angels do not leave hell as it is, and numerous angels go to hell and continue to persuade people to return to heaven.
In fact, this is quite a difficult task.
If the theory is that we cannot be in the same world if our vibrations do not match, then the question becomes, “Then how can angels go to hell?”
Angels descend into hell wearing a kind of diving suit, or something like that. It is the same as when we wear diving suits when we dive into the sea.
This is also the secret of why people from different spiritual realms can live together on earth.
In other words, by wearing a kind of diving suit called a body, the phenomenal world (this world) has become a rare place where people from various spiritual realms can meet.
What is the most highly regarded work in the real world?
Now we are talking about something quite important.
Neither modern monks nor pastors/priests can preach about these things. Therefore, even if you consult with them, you are no longer able to obtain true religious salvation power.
Because they do not understand the truth, sutra reading has little effect.
You are much more likely to have greater redemptive power if you read and understand this.
Knowledge is power,” said Francis Bacon, and by “knowing the truth,” we can change our lives to be more fruitful.
Also, it is the job of angels (bodhisattvas) to preach this kind of truth.
The practice of spreading the truth, even if it does not involve monetary compensation, is incomparably more valuable than any other work in the world.
In a nutshell, a job in this world is to “serve the convenience of living in this world,” right? This is true in car sales, cosmetics sales, or anything else.
Communicating the truth about the existential energy that is human nature is universal, spanning both the phenomenal world (this world) and the existential world (the other world).
Therefore, you can see that it is of considerable value.
In fact, even in the real world, the upper part of the hierarchy, in short, the inhabitants of the Bodhisattva realm, seem to be really populated by religious people, thinkers, and so on.
That means that you have done something worthwhile, and the “quality of work x quantity of work” is what is valued.
Why do we reincarnate?
As explained in the section on “vibration energy theory,” spirits with similar vibrations gather together to create a certain world, so it is very easy for them to feel at ease because they are “living together with like-minded people.
However, if such a situation continues for a long time, there is an aspect of becoming bored because there is little stimulation.
When we live on earth, we tend to think, “I don’t want to work,” or “I have to see my boss again today, who I don’t like,” and “I don’t want to be reborn again.
However, when we return to the real world, that is when the boredom aspect comes out.
But hell is busy, in a sense, and the bodhisattvas (angels) are not idle, as they are holding study groups, sending down inspiration to those on earth, or working on the salvation of lost souls.
But still, it is true that the bodhisattvas also begin to think that they would like to have a few more new experiences!
Also, for souls above the bodhisattva level, living in heaven for so long makes it difficult for them to understand the progress of civilization and culture on earth, and makes it difficult to instruct people.
In short, there will be a discrepancy between their senses and those of people on earth.
There, they occasionally descend to earth in search of new knowledge (experience, wisdom, and stimulation).
These are the real reasons for reincarnation.
Therefore, reincarnation is not only painful, but also a very valuable spiritual evolutionary opportunity for the soul.
What is the mind of a bodhisattva? What is the method of practice to become a Bodhisattva?
Now, in order to become a Bodhisattva, one must first understand the state of mind of a Bodhisattva.
We have said that the average state of mind determines the world to which one will go in the next life, but what then is the state of mind required to fulfill the requirements of a bodhisattva?
Simply put, a bodhisattva is a person who always keeps self-interest and altruism in mind and practices it.
In many Buddhist texts (Mahayana Buddhism), bodhisattvas are described as beings who put off their own attainment of Buddhahood in favor of performing altruistic deeds.
But is it really so?
In modern parlance, altruism would mean something like “giving love”. In Buddhist terms, it is the exercise of compassion.
However, even if you say “give love,” how can you give if you don’t have “something to give” to begin with?
The very content of what we give is wisdom. In this case, wisdom is not general wisdom, such as “the wisdom of daily life,” but wisdom that is more profound, wisdom that is based on understanding and mastery of the Buddha Dharma itself.
This wisdom is also the very enlightenment of Buddha and Jesus.
Therefore, the prerequisite for the practice of compassion is the “acquisition of wisdom.
In other words, the two wheels of “the acquisition of wisdom and the practice of compassion” are truly self-interest and altruism.
To turn such wisdom and compassion on both wheels is self-interest and altruism, and at the same time, it is a practice to become a Bodhisattva.
And wisdom is the principle of evolution and compassion is the principle of harmony.
I will not go into this topic in depth at this time, but evolution and harmony are also the two major principles of the universe.
Therefore, wisdom and compassion are not only virtues to be practiced by individuals, but are also the very principles upon which the universe is built.
What is the formula for becoming a Bodhisattva?
Now, let us consider a more concrete merkmal to actually take the opportunity of this life to approach the state of a bodhisattva.
I made up this formula on my own, but if I were to write it in a simplified form, it would be as follows.
Wisdom x Compassion = Spiritual rank
I guess it is easier to understand if you imagine the area of a rectangle with wisdom on the vertical axis and compassion on the horizontal axis.
For example, no matter how great the practice of compassion, if there is no wisdom, i.e., if it is actually “knowledge” that leads people to unhappiness, the more you practice this, the more negative it becomes in terms of workload.
On the other hand, even if one’ s wisdom is great, if one lives one’s entire life in a hermitage in the mountains without seeing anyone, this means that one has not exerted any influence on people.
So in short, the area of the rectangle would be small, as compassion is almost zero, right?
Therefore, the first prerequisite is that the thought of compassion be pure.
Next, it is important that wisdom be solid and backed by knowledge of truth.
And it would be best if we could take that solid wisdom and put it into practice (this is the practice of compassion) to have a positive impact on as many people as possible.
This is the basic idea behind maximizing the area (equal spiritual rank or workload) of the square.
The “quality of wisdom” and “quality of compassion” are even more important
Now, as for wisdom, of course, more general knowledge that is useful for the evolution of this world is fine.
If we expand that knowledge, of course, we can practice “wisdom x compassion.
This is, in fact, what we call “normal work.
Most jobs in this world are usually done for the convenience of the world, for which we receive money in return.
Just having done these common jobs your whole life (if they are legitimate jobs), of course, means that you have lived life well enough.
However, this is not enough to return to the world of bodhisattvas (angels). After all, this is where the “quality of wisdom” is tested.
In other words, we might call it deeper wisdom, or the difference between ” intelligence” and “wisdom”.
After all, wisdom about the soul (existential energy), which is the essential part of human nature, is incomparably more valuable than intelligence that serves mere worldly conveniences.
Everything in this world passes away, but the soul part is essential and eternal.
So, in terms of “wisdom quality,” it is important to have “wisdom with high truth inclusion rate.
And it is the quantity of wisdom after the quality of wisdom.
Needless to say, the more quantity of wisdom, the better.
Regarding compassion, the first question is “how pure is the thought?” and then the next mater is “how many practices of compassion are there?”.
Again, the order is from quality to quantity.
Thinking of it this way, we can further refine the formula.
(quality of wisdom + quality of compassion) x (amount of wisdom x amount of compassion) = spiritual rank (amount of spiritual work)
Then, in order to become a bodhisattva, we should change the “spiritual rank” in this formula to “bodhisattva” and repeat the practice and measurement.
As mentioned above, you can see from this formula that the world above the heavens has a large population of religious people, thinkers, and philosophers.
As mentioned above, you can see from this formula that the world above the realm of the gods has a large population of religious people, thinkers, and philosophers.
The reason is that the quality of wisdom is overwhelmingly high in work related to the soul.
Wisdom First? Compassion first? It is like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg? It is difficult to say.
Although we will not go into depth in this paper, there is an understanding that we actually think of them separately as “wisdom and compassion,” but in fact they are just different aspects of the same thing explained in different ways.
Conclusion
At length, I have explained the meaning and mission of life.
A brief summary is as follows.
- Meaning of Life = Acquisition of Wisdom
- Mission of Life = Practice of Compassion
And. Maximizing Wisdom x Compassion will be the key to how well you are able to create your own most victorious life.
This is also the theory of the Most Perfect Happiness.
Support to become a Bodhisattva
‘Then, in my own way, I would like to maximize Wisdom x Compassion. To do this, isn’t it important to have an environment where I can continue to learn?” And how do we create a place for the practice of compassion?” I think some of you may be aware of these issues.
